Legochem Biosciences has appointed Dr. Chan-Young Ok, former CMO (Chief Medical Officer) of Lunit, an AI medical imaging specialist, as the Head of its Translational Research (TR) Center. At Lunit, Dr. Ok oversaw clinical strategy and medical data analysis, accumulating expertise in AI-based precision medicine. At Legochem Biosciences, he will be responsible for biomarker discovery, validation, and R&D strategy formulation for antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) and immuno-oncology pipelines. ADCs are designed as 'guided missile-type anticancer drugs' where antibodies selectively target cancer cells. They are considered a core technology for next-generation cancer treatment due to their high precision and fewer side effects compared to conventional anticancer drugs. Legochem Biosciences possesses its proprietary ConjuAll platform technology and is developing various ADC candidates using it. With Dr. Ok's arrival, the company expects to further refine biomarker strategies for each clinical stage and patient selection criteria, as well as accelerate new drug development using AI and big data. Particularly in ADC new drug development, biomarkers are crucial for enabling personalized treatment and increasing clinical success rates. The global ADC market is projected to grow to 30 billion dollars (approximately 42 trillion Korean Won) by 2030. In Korea, companies like Celltrion, Samsung Bioepis, and Legochem Biosciences are also competitively expanding their ADC pipelines. Based on Dr. Ok's expertise, Legochem Biosciences aims to file IND (Investigational New Drug) applications for 3 to 4 ADC candidates by 2026 and is actively pursuing technology transfer negotiations with global big pharma.
